Well, we are down to the final stretch of our Sabbatical. This weekend we are headed away to Santa Barbara with our friends, Rob and Fran Graham. Then next Saturday we are spending the day with our grandchildren and their parents at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. So in between, I am looking at beginning some retooling for the season before us.

I start one of my four summer online Cuesta College classes this Wednesday. Most are on different internet skills I want to learn, but I do hope to add an editing course. Bill Roberts, a wonderful friend and teacher, will be giving us Spanish lessons over his long summer break from teaching. I’m also picking up my Spanish lessons on CD again. And of course, there is still the pile of books I am working through on spiritual formation. All are things I feel the Holy Spirit is asking me to do in a season of preparation for whatever He is planning at Father’s House and in my own life.

I am finishing up Joel Rosenberg’s book, Inside the Revolution, How the Followers of Jihad, Jefferson & Jesus are Battling to Dominate the Middle East and Transform the World. In it Joel tells of millions of Muslims coming to Christ through dreams and visions. One Iraqi leader explained how they share their faith by doing what they can, “but God is not dependent upon us. This is something He is doing on His own. He is drawing Muslims to Christ. We are just His servants, helping where we can…. When we meet them, they already believe in Jesus. We don’t have to share the gospel with them…. We help them grow in their faith.”

I don’t feel I have any big assignment before me except to just “get ready.” Hummm…. Wonder what God is up to here in California and on the Central Coast? Whatever it is, I want to be prepared and ready to help where I can. “We are just His servants, helping where we can.” Somehow, that is something I can learn anew from our Arab friends.
