Monterey St. Espresso

IMG_0608Monterey St. Espresso in San Luis Obispo is probably one of our very favorite coffee shops. The atmosphere sells it for us.

Situated at 980 Monterey St., the cafe’ is small inside and out. It provides a quaint feel without the feminine overkill.

An old stove serves as a counter for various coffee additions such as cinnamon, sugar and the jams and honey for your bagels.

IMG2_0614Tea pots, a French press here and there, and many varieties of tea and coffee line the counter and walls. Cool music plays quietly in the background.

The view out the window outlines a tree lined, old village street. Sit outside and people-watch if so inclined.

The coffee is not necessarily outstanding, but good enough to draw us back to this charming resting place. Coffee and tea are sold in 12 or 16 oz insulated cups and a cafe’ mocha or cafe’ double latte’ will cost you $3.50.

Breads, muffins, cookies and bagels round out the morning menu. A variety of panini sandwiches are served for lunch.

Newspapers are close by, although we usually each bring along the latest book we are reading.

On a scale of 1 to 5, Monetery St. Espress rates a 5 on our scale of great coffee shops.

“Way too much coffee. But if it weren’t for the coffee, I’d have no identifiable personality whatsoever.” –David Letterman
