Hi, our names are Tom and Susan Gaddis and we are pastors at Father’s House, a Foursquare church in Atascadero, California. Some years ago God began dealing with us about taking time to rest on a regular basis. At first we just tried to get away for a few days every three months. However, that didn’t seem to be enough. As time went by, more and more signs of burnout in our lives began to emerge. In the fall of 2008 our good friend, Jeremy Sizemore, pointed out that we had been in “pioneering mode” for the last 34 years at Father’s House. On his advice we began to take two days off a week instead of just one. We made one of those days a Sabbath.

At the same time we began processing with our Helmsmen (our eldership) the idea of Tom and I taking a Sabbatical in the spring of 2009. This blog is to be a record of that Sabbatical and an ongoing journal of our journey into rest through learning how to take a weekly Sabbath.
